I did not make a New Year’s resolution this year to be more productive. However, I believe that I have found ways to be more productive and have incorporated them into my daily life.
- Get up early and do something that brings you joy.
I try to write two or three notes each day to friends or colleagues. This way I believe that my day begins with a smile and a feeling of success.
- Reduce the number of meetings in your work day.
It is not necessary to conduct a meeting to prepare for the meeting; then attend the meeting; and afterward hold a meeting to debrief the meeting you attended!
- Make sure that your calendar is always up-to-date with time blocked out for achieving personal and professional goals.
Do this before others start filling up your calendar with other things for you to do.
- Declutter your workspace.
Although Richard totally disagrees with me, I know that a clean space allows me to concentrate better.
- Have something in your office that you love.
I have my collection of Books of Common Prayer. I take short 30-second breaks and look at them several times a day. It gives me a mental break—just enough time to reenergize me.
Name something to trim from your life.
