Favorite Indulgences

I was recently asked what my favorite indulgences are. It’s funny I have never thought about this, but here are a few of my favorite things to do when I have quiet time.

  1. Sipping a nice glass of 10- or 20-year-old tawny port. I have a favorite cut crystal glass that I bought in the Czech Republic that makes the experience even more enjoyable.
  2. Having a hair “wash and blow out” when I am out of town on a business trip—or when I am not out of town!
  3. Stretched out on a lounge chair in our backyard gazebo reading a good biography. I’m currently rereading Hemingway’s “A Moveable Feast.”
  4. Binge watching “The Crown” or Anthony Bourdain on Netflix
  5. Searching eBay for another rare and antique edition of the Book of Common Prayer for my collection.

Frankly, when I have any quiet time, I’m probably asleep!

Whether it’s at work, at home, or in a volunteer role, we all need to recharge. What’s your favorite form of self-care, and why is it important to give yourself permission to make time for it?
